Goethe-Institut Cyprus, Institut Français de Chypre and Queer Wave in partnership with Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre (NiMAC) present “nono, bad timing!”, a process-based exhibition focusing on archiving queer times and spaces. The project brings together material from Queer as German Folk, which can be visited in its entirety at the Goethe-Institut in Nicosia, the Marseille-based archive of Mémoire des sexualités, whilst for the month of October it becomes a laboratory for new archiving proposals by Cyprus-based cultural practitioners.

We warmly invite you to the closing ceremony, where theatre director and cultural producer Evita Ioannou will present a fascinating performance. Ioannou explores dramaturgy and performance as encounters with the textures of archival work.

In 2021, she brought the play "Five Lesbians Eating a Quiche" to the stage in Cyprus and Greece. For this exhibition, she is lending the portrait of Lady Monmont, a central artwork of the play, and shedding light on its uncertain provenance. The question of what came first – the lesbian or her portrait – is at the heart of her critical exploration.

The materialization of nono, bad timing! is funded by the Franco-German Cultural Fund.
