The Goethe-Institut Cyprus presents its upcoming open-air film series, titled Sommerkino: Between Waves. This year’s film series is dedicated to water in many forms: as a physical force, a border, a refuge, a threat, a memory. The programme invites audiences to follow these different cinematic streams, to feel how water can shape lives, and to reflect on the fluidity of identity, belonging, and change. Between Waves continues with Alaska by Max Gleschinski.

Stoically, Kerstin drifts across the Mecklenburg Lake District in her red kayak. Aimlessly, she glides for days over the water, somewhere between tourism and desolation, determined to remain alone. The many rivers and lakes are familiar to her. But where does she really come from? What is she running from? Who is pursuing her? The monotony of her journey breaks when Alima appears, the first person to finally ask the solitary paddler the right questions.
