The Goethe-Institut Cyprus would like to draw your attention to the following event by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra:

Under the direction of renowned German maestro Wolfram Christ, Spirit of Romanticism presents the music of romantic Central European composers, bursting with emotion and drama.

Discovered in 1951, Antonín Dvořák’s Seven pieces for small orchestra were composed back in 1867. In them one soon discovers seven movements of gorgeous, surprising theatricality.

Τhe programme of the concert includes the 8th of the 15 violin concertos by German composer Louis Spohr, which is compelling for the dramatic use of the violin. Interpreted by CyCO's concertmaster Wolfgang Schröder, characteristic sections are played in the style of recitatives and arias. Originality, power and melodic elegance characterize the pieces.

The Serenade for Strings by Antonín Dvořák was written in 1875 - one of the happiest and most productive years in the composer's life.

Antonín Dvořák: Seven pieces for small orchestra
Louis Spohr: Violin concerto no. 8 in A minor (in modo di scena cantante), op. 47
Antonín Dvořák: Serenade for strings in E major, op. 22

Soloist: Wolfgang Schroeder, violin
Conductor: Wolfram Christ
