The Silent Death
Volker Kutscher
Inspector Gereon Rath has moved from the vice squad to the homicide squad within the Berlin police force and has to solve several murders which have taken place in the film-making industry. In 1930s Berlin the film scene was in a state of upheaval. The new technology of the sound film seemed to displace the established silent film, which led to uncertainty and increased competition in the industry. During the production of a new sound film the actress Betty Winter is killed by a spotlight. What initially looks like an accident quickly raises suspicions.
