1929: The young Detective Inspector Gereon Rath is transferred to Berlin. The city is bubbling over with an excessive nightlife, drugs and prostitution, a wild underworld, and political unrest with violent riots on May 1st. Gereon Rath finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation, during the course of which an unnamed dead man is found in the Landwehrkanal. This first part of the crime series about Gereon Rath set in 1920s and 30s Berlin was the blueprint for the successful television series 'Babylon Berlin'.
