Living with Each Other - Democracy in German Language Teaching

The Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata, in collaboration with the Indo-German Association of Teachers (InDaF), is delighted to host its bi-annual German Language Teachers' Conference from April 7- 9, 2023. The conference aims to bring together language teachers to discuss and exchange ideas on "Living with Each Other - Democracy in German Language Teaching." Foreign language teaching has the potential to promote cultural awareness and democratic values, and this conference will explore how teaching and learning German as a foreign language can contribute to the development of democratic citizens in today's globalized world.
Experts from Germany and India, including esteemed academics from German and Indian universities such as the University of Jena, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi and The English and Foreign Languages University, Shillong Campus, will lead workshops and input sessions, equipping teachers with tips and plans to integrate democracy into German language lessons. Publishers will also be present to showcase new textbooks and learning materials on German as a foreign language.
The conference offers a range of exciting formats, including podium discussions, workshops, and keynote speeches, to provide participants with ample opportunities to network, exchange ideas and gain insights into the latest developments in foreign language education. In addition, there will be fun activities on the afternoon/evening of April 8th, such as a dance workshop exploring the theme of gender, art and craft, energizers, mindfulness activities, and cooking, which teachers can incorporate into their classrooms.
The conference is open to invited participants from Goethe-Institut's Educational Cooperation network partners, including schools, colleges, universities, and other institutions based in East and North-East India. Please note that dual vaccination against Covid-19 is required to attend the conference.
