The Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai presents Can You Hear Me? a solo exhibition from the internationally celebrated Indian artist Nalini Malani. This is Malani's first exhibition in India after becoming the first Indian artist to win the celebrated Joan Miro Prize. The solo expands on Malani’s history with the Institut – in 1993, Malani worked on a collaboration on German dramatist Heiner Mueller’s Medeamaterial (with Alaknanda Samarth), and later on Bertolt Brecht’s The Job in 1997.
The theme of this years festival is Humboldt & the web of life. Alexander von Humboldt revolutionized the conception of nature by defining it as an interconnected living web. The Science Film Festival 2019 aims to highlight the relevance of this view in the 21st century in regard to environmentalism, climate change and sustainability.
The State of Nature in India lecture series aims to provide a multi-disciplinary platform in order to better understand complexities of anthropogenic processes - a term that depoliticises the current ecological crisis - and critique what it means through a focus on India.
