Research Residency

Turi Leng Seong Agostino is an Australian-born composer and producer based in Berlin. Agostino’s music embraces multiple genres, and concepts of temporality and identity, which he traces back to his Chinese-Malaysian-Italian heritage.

Agostino has worked as a producer with German hip hop artist Mauli and Scandinavian folk singer/songwriter Tuvaband and as a recording engineer for Little Simz, Jesper Munk, LA Salami, Cro and Eunique. He's worked as a mix engineer for Uk artist Perera Elsewhere as well as for the Amplify Berlin residency.

His sound design has featured in theatre productions directed by Jahman Davine and contemporary dance productions by Company Haa. Agostino released his debut album ‘Self Portraits’ in November 2022 with an immersive installation performance at Silent Green. The installation artworks were the result of a collaboration with Australian artist and architect Amy Evans.

Turi will spend 4 weeks in Malaysia (07 April – 15 May) as part of his research residency to develop a new audiovisual project which delves deeper into his Chinese-Malaysian roots especially towards the Baba-Nyonya culture. He focuses his works in exploring the themes of heritage, identity, and the intersection of cultures. The sense of ‘inbetweenness’ and the hybridization of cultures, have been constant themes throughout his work over the past decades.
