On May 23 and 24, 2025, the DLT brought together Filipino German teachers for seven workshops on trends in language teaching, including phonetics, online teaching resources, and exam strategies. The event focused on networking, featuring publisher exhibitions and a dinner on Friday.

German as a Foreign Language in Transition: Actively Shaping Diversity

Day 1: Friday, May 23
The event began with registration and a welcome address by Jens Rösler, Head of the Language Department and Deputy Director at the Goethe-Institut Philippines, and the organizing team. The German Ambassador, Dr. Andreas Pfaffernoschke, was the guest of honor at the opening and addressed the participants in a speech in which he praised the important work of German teachers in the Philippines.

The first academic highlight followed with the workshop Current developments in teaching German as a foreign language - Opportunities and Challenges by Han Diola.

At the publishing fair, the publishers Cornelsen, Ernst Klett Sprachen, Hueber, Piefke Trading, and the Goethe-Institut presented the latest language learning materials and exam information. After lunch, participants attended four concurrent workshops on the following topics:

  • Talk like a waterfall - the classroom as a communication center
  • Analog Games in DaF classes
  • Phonetics in the classroom: effective and creative design
  • Thinking out of the Book – using digital learning resources in your A1-classes
The day concluded with the networking dinner at the Somerset Central Makati Hotel.

Day 2, Saturday, May 24:
The second day was entirely devoted to the various workshops which were held concurrently in the morning and afternoon:
  • Cornelsen: The mind seeks new things, the heart loves repetition – strategies for successful exam results
  • Hueber: Multimedia teaching with Hueber – Interactive and practical
  • Ernst Klett Verlag: Pre-integration for trainees and skilled workers
  • Analog Games in DaF classes
  • Phonetics in the classroom: effective and creative design
  • Thinking out of the Book – using digital learning resources in your A1-classes
  • Talk like a waterfall - the classroom as a communication center
The conference concluded with closing remarks by Jens Rösler (Head of the Language Department and Deputy Director, Goethe-Institut Philippines) and Barbara Pauli (Manager for Education Cooperation, Goethe-Institut Philippines), followed by the presentation of certificates.

This year's DLT successfully combined modern teaching methods, cultural perspectives, and digital innovations. This has strengthened both professional networking and German language instruction in the region for the long term.
