Enrollment Requirements
To register for the A1 course, please a valid government-issued ID. We will use your name exactly as it appears on this ID, so please make sure the document is current and accurate. Accepted forms of identification include:
- Passport
- NBI Clearance
- UMID
- National ID
- PRC ID
- Driver’s License
Note: Since A1 is the entry-level course, you do not need to take a placement test or provide proof of prior German studies.
To enroll in an A2, B1, B2, C1, or C2 course, please prepare the following:
1. A valid government-issued ID
- Passport
- NBI Clearance
- UMID
- National ID
- PRC ID
- Driver’s License
- A Goethe-Zertifikat relevant to the course level you're enrolling in, issued within the past 12 months (e.g., A1 Zertifikat for A2 enrollment, A2 for B1, B1 for B2, B2 for C1)
- An endorsement letter from the Goethe-Institut Philippinen, issued within the past 6 months
- Placement test results conducted by the Goethe-Institut
Please note that we follow the exact name format as it appears on your ID across all enrollment records.
The test is available to the general public for a fee of PHP 1,000 / EUR 20. It consists of two parts:
- A written test, including grammar, vocabulary, and a short essay section
- An oral test, conducted by one of our language instructors
Participants Required to Take the Placement Test:
- Students who have taken previous German language courses from another institute and wish to continue at Goethe-Institut Philippinen.
- Students with an endorsement letter that is more than six (6) months old at the time of enrollment.
- Students with a Goethe-Zertifikat that is more than one (1) year old at the time of enrollment.
Please note that endorsements do not replace the Certificate of Attendance or any official examination certification, and are intended solely for internal use by the Goethe-Institut Philippinen.
The endorsement letter is valid for up to six months from the date of issuance. Enrollment beyond this six-month validity period will require either a placement test or a Goethe-Zertifikat. If a student does not receive an endorsement letter, a Goethe-Zertifikat will be required for enrollment in a higher-level course.
Course information
Please note: Students cannot choose their class venue. Venue assignment is done randomly to ensure a balanced distribution of class sizes.
- Device: Students must attend class using a computer, laptop, or tablet. Attending via mobile phone is not allowed, as it may limit participation and affect lesson quality.
- Audio: Use a pair of headphones with a microphone. Relying on built-in speakers and microphones may cause echoing, which can disrupt the class for you and your classmates.
- Internet Connection: A stable internet connection with a minimum speed of 540 Kbit/s is required. You can test your connection here: [Speed Test]
- Zoom Platform: Please download the Zoom app prior to your first session. No Zoom account is needed—you will receive a course link and session number via email. Ensure that your Zoom display name matches the name registered in our system. Avoid using nicknames or pseudonyms, as this may delay your admission to the class.
- Privacy and Data Security: The Goethe-Institut Philippinen values your privacy and the security of your data. The Zoom licenses used for our online courses are managed by the Goethe-Institut headquarters in Germany and fully comply with European Union data protection regulations (GDPR). Since the global shift to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Goethe-Institut has used Zoom worldwide without any reported data breaches or privacy violations.
- A1 to B1: Starting from PHP 25,500
- B2: Starting from PHP 38,800
Course participants must be at least 16 years of age for an adult course and 12-15 years of age for a youth course upon the start of the class. Groups courses normally start at the beginning of the course term. The Goethe-Institut Philippinen has (6) six to (7) seven intakes per year. Individual courses can start anytime. However, to organize the course smoothly, the general preparation time is approximately (3) three weeks.
1. Terms of Payment
1.1 Course fees are paid in full upon registration. Any additional service charges from your bank are to be shouldered by the participant.
1.2 Registration is on a first paid, first served basis. Reservations are strictly not accepted. For Individual courses, an amount of at least (10) ten teaching units must be booked and paid before starting the course.
2. Course fees
2.1 The contractually binding fee is the fee stated in the price list current at the time of application.
2.2 Should a participant wish to change his or her booking, then each booking change is subject to a fee equal to 10% the course fee.
2.3 Booking changes are only allowed up to five (5) working days before the start of the course.
3. Cancellation and refunds
The following conditions apply if the course participant is unable to take part in the course:
3.1 In case of cancellation at least five (5) working days before the start of the course, Goethe-Institut Philippinen will withhold 50% of the course fee that will be refunded to the student. Textbooks are non-refundable.
3.2 In case of late cancellation, non-appearance or leaving the course once it is underway, the participants are not entitled to any refund.
3.3 Cancellations must be submitted in writing with reason and must be accompanied by the original receipt. The date of cancellation shall be the date of receipt at the Goethe-Institut Philippinen office.
4. Course level assignment/class size
4.1 Placement in course levels is based on the placement test conducted at the Goethe-Institut Philippinen. A schedule for a placement test will be arranged by the Language Course Office at a fee of PHP 1000. If the previous course was taken a year ago, Goethe Institut Philippines allows the right to require another Placement test in order to enroll to a higher level course.
4.2 Endorsements are part of a recommendation scheme in place for students who wish to pursue higher levels. Being endorsed by the teacher for the next level allows the student to enroll without having to take a certification examination. These endorsements are based on the student's performance throughout the course, including attendance, assignments, exams, and active participation. Please note that endorsements do not replace our certificate of attendance or examination certification and are only used internally by the Goethe-Institut Philippinen.

4.3 Goethe-Institut Philippinen reserves the right to amend or postpone its courses and change course details such as fees, times, materials, rooms and instructors in case of inclement weather for the safety of our students.
4.4 The required minimum number of students per class is 12 persons. Students may move to another course schedule or receive a full refund should the course be cancelled. This term is not applicable for individual courses.
4.5 All teachers receive standardized training procedures to ensure consistency in education delivery. We do not allow the choosing of teachers. Students are expected to adhere to this policy to maintain effectiveness of the education system.
5. Responsibilities of participants
Participants are obliged to comply with the course rules and regulations applicable to the Goethe-Institut Philippinen. This means that they are on time when classes start, concentrate on classes, contribute actively to the learning process and refrain from disturbing the learning process by diverting the attention of other students. This implies that participants dress in an appropriate way during classes according to the norms which apply to public spaces. This covers also courses which take place in the digital environment and covers both profile pictures and live-pictures of participants.
Students should attend classes in a private setting where Participants can focus without distractions. This practice helps maintain the integrity of our online learning environment and ensures that all enrolled students receive the intended educational experience. Additionally, students are not allowed to share lessons or class access with individuals who are not officially enrolled in the course.

Students must be able to abide by the technical requirements asked of them. We do not allow the use of mobile phones.
For individual courses, it is the student´s responsibility to outline learning goals to establish a tailor-made schedule by the teacher.
6. Liability of the Goethe-Institut
The liability of Goethe-Institut Philippinen and its staff is limited to intent and gross negligence. Goethe-Institut Philippinen also accepts no liability for the cancellation of its services due to force majeure, e.g. natural disasters, fire, floods, war, official orders and all other circumstances beyond the control of the contracting parties.

- Go to our Webshop: Visit this page to view all available courses for enrollment. Browse the course offerings and click on “Details” to see the schedule. If the course is open for registration, click “Book” to proceed.
- Complete the registration form: Fill in the online form with accurate and up-to-date information.
- Check your email: After submitting the form, you will receive an automated email with payment instructions. If you don’t see it in your inbox, please check your Spam or Junk folder.
- Submit required documents: Send a copy of your valid government-issued ID and proof of payment to: sprache-manila@goethe.de
- Visit the Language Course Office and bring a printed copy of your valid government-issued ID.
- Complete the registration form at the office.
- Submit the form and settle your payment. Please note that only cash payments are accepted for in-person transactions.
