In "The Trouble With Being Born" androids wander through dense, gloomy forests and dreary, gray housing estates, but above all through loose memories and repressed traumas. Into deep abysses full of beauty, longing and pain. In constant alternation between disturbing reality and futuristic romanticism. The director has succeeded in creating a very individual, stirring, but also sensitive film that inevitably confronts us with the big questions of the human condition. Where do we come from, where are we going? With a signature style and unsettling aesthetic, it takes us through a story that only at first glance seems far away. (First Steps Awards Jury).

Austria's new voice for the intersection of drive and abyss, fear and mystery, emotion and emptiness is Sandra Wollner. In her provocative second feature film, she develops the plot out of a complex basic constellation (not the other way around) and reconstructs families that never existed. The machine becomes a mirror surface of human emotion, the film a captivating ladder over into virtual as well as psychic realities. (70th Berlin International Film Festival, Catalog)
