ญาบอยฮานอย yaboihanoi

Bangkok-born-and-based Lamtharn Hantrakul ลำธาร หาญตระกูล is an AI Sound Artist and AI Research Scientist challenging Southeast Asian traditions through a synthesis of electronic music, machine learning and mixed-media reimaginations of Thai culture. Technology is never neutral; it is created within the cultural scope of its inventors.

Lamtharn leverages his unique career as both a programmer (ex-Google/ex-ByteDance/ex-TikTok) and composer/director (aka yaboihanoi) to reveal and rebel; coding and open-sourcing audio tools, then wielding them to write electronic music empowering melodies, soundscapes and rituals of his region.

Across sound, dance and design, his solo and collaborative projects collapse binaries between the traditional and modern, the young and old, and confront algorithms that choreograph which cultures are celebrated and forgotten. He holds degrees in Physics and Music from Yale, knows Thai, English, French, Mandarin and recently performed at SONAR 2025 as artist and speaker.

Inspiration / Context:
An audio-visual segment taken from an hour-long mixed-media electronic music liveset by ญาบอยฮานอย yaboihanoi that is currently on tour. It has been re-made to loop and fit the space, environment and soundscape of the Goethe-Institut Thailand.

Artist Statement:
Our experience of dance and music is fleeting. Once motion and melody is performed in space, it cannot be experienced the same way, for both artist and audience. Technology and media are cultural opportunities to defy the relentless forward motion of time and zoom into the micro-choreographies that sometimes escape human perception; reframing how we experience, forget and remember movement and sound.
