B-LA CONNECT is an initiative to promote the cooperation and networking between the two sister cities’ creative communities. 23 Art Spaces from Berlin in exchange with 22 Art Spaces in LA. Art exhibitions, film screenings, talks, performances & more.
In June 2019, twenty art spaces from Los Angeles were exhibited in 22 art spaces in Berlin. The interdisciplinary program included art exhibitions, film screenings, performances, talks, and more. From July 7-12, 2022, the Berlin art spaces travel to LA for a return visit with openings in 22 different art spaces throughout the city. Additional programming includes a film night on Monday, July 11th at the Goethe-Institut LA, and a performance evening on Tuesday, July 12th on the rooftop of The Bendix Building.
Information on all openings and programming: B-LA-CONNECT.ORG
B-LA CONNECT sees itself as an international cultural exchange on a grassroots level. It brings together members of different art spheres and scenes from both cities, creating new opportunities to interact and connect with each other, not only in the individual cities but also transnationally.
In the sense of positive globality, B–LA CONNECT seeks to advance the cultural partnership between Berlin and Los Angeles.
B-LA CONNECT wants to celebrate urban diversity, show presence, and stand against reactionary forces. Berlin and Los Angeles share the urban self-image of being the world in miniature, as places of cultural diversity and individual freedom. In light of the rising authoritarian and regressive currents worldwide, the two cities stand for a liberal and cosmopolitan openness towards the world.
B-LA CONNECT wants to build bridges where others erect walls.
B-LA Connect is presented with the support of The Hirsch Collective, the Goethe-Institut, The Torrance Art Museum, The Checkpoint Charlie Foundation, and The Berlin Senate Department of Culture and Europe.
