Rebecca Wilton studied photography at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig under Timm Rautert. Her most recent solo exhibition „Work‘s in Progress“ was at Galerie Jochen Hempel, Leipzig (2016).
A central motive in the work of Rebecca Wilton is the detailed presentation of historic overlaps in urban and rural environments as they present themselves in structures, public spaces and in nature.
Her artistic process resembles an archeological dig as she looks for cultural inscriptions of specific locations to be captured through photographic means. In a meticulously chosen image language she excavates layers of time to reveal a location. This process displays an additional aspect of Rebecca Wilton’s work: the difference between the seen, and the known, and how both are layered in a photographic image.
