Communication and Administration Officer of the HOUSTON branch

The Goethe-Institut is the global cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany. We advocate for understanding between Germany, Europe and the world. The Goethe-Institut Chicago is looking for a Communications and Administration Officer for our new Houston branch to begin work August 1st, 2025. The Houston branch will report to the office in Chicago, where the finances and administration will be managed.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Assistance in the conceptualization and realization of the program of our new Houston branch, including location scouting and mapping of partner organisations in Texas in close collaboration with the Goethe-Institut in Chicago;
  • Assistance in the conceptualization, realization, and evaluation of cultural programs at the new Houston branch of the Goethe-Institut Chicago, in the areas of visual art, architecture and design, music, theatre and dance, film and discourse;
  • Conceptualization of coherent communication strategies on digital and printed media for all cultural programming; publishing newsletter, working on social media in line with the Goethe-Institut’s corporate design and in consultation with the Goethe-Institut Chicago
  • Administrative tasks, finance management, and budget planning

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree or higher – for example, in the humanities or cultural management
  • Interest in and knowledge of art, culture, and society as well as German and American cultural scenes
  • Experience in marketing and communication, online and offline, on Social Media etc.
  • Organizational skills and event management experience
  • Willingness to work on evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to travel on official business
  • Knowledge of both spoken and written German and English
  • Capability to work in a small team
The Goethe-Institut offers a competitive benefits package, including health insurance and short-term disability insurance (for employees working at least 30 hours per week). After 6 months of employment, all employees are eligible to contribute to a 401(K) plan with p to a 4.5% employer match. This position offers a hybrid work model allowing remote work for up to two days per week, pending supervisor approval.

Salary Range: $33,000 – $33,500
FLSA Classification: Nonexempt
