Bui Van Nam Son

The philosopher and translator Bui Van Nam Son was born in Vinh Trinh, Duy Xuyen, Quang Nam in 1947. He is a scholar with extensive knowledge of his field and speaks many foreign languages: German, English, French, Chinese. Mr. Bui Van Nam Son is a lecturer for philosophy and translator of renowned philosophical and social science works. He has translated the „The Three Critics“ of Immanuel Kant and wrote commentaries: "Critique of Pure Reason" (2004, reprint 2007), "Critique of Judgement", "Critique of Practical Reason" (2007), and von Hegel's: "The Phenomenology of Spirit" (2006)," Logic of the Encyclopedia "(2006)," Science of Logic "(2008).

From 1964-1968 he studied philosophy at Van Khoa University in Saigon. In 1968 he studied philosophy at the J. W. Goethe University, Frankfurt / Main, Germany. He was a student of Karl Otto Apel (1922 - 2017) and Jürgen Habermas (* 1929). After 30 years in Germany, Mr. Bui Van Nam Son returned to Vietnam in 1998. He lives in Ho Chi Minh City.

In 2007 he was awarded the Phan Chau Trinh Award for the translation "Critique of Pure Reason" by Immanuel Kant.
