Julia Franck

Julia Franck (born 1970 in Berlin-Lichtenberg) writes poetry and prose.

Julia Franck studied Old American Studies, German Studies and Philosophy. For her texts and eight books she received numerous awards, prizes and scholarships. In 2007 she was honored with the German Book Prize (dbp) for the novel "Die Mittagsfrau" (The Midday Woman"). The novel sold a million times. Her novel Campfire was filmed in 2013 under the title "West" with Christian Schwochow as film director.

The novel "The Midday Woman" is set against the background of two world wars. The central figure of the novel is the half-Jewish Helene, who has to accept many blows of fate until she finally surrenders. Even her son's love does not help her; she finally must leave him.
