Open Call for Participants
Workshop "Bodyscapes"
Goethe-Institut Hanoi invites artists and movement practitioners – both with and without disabilities – to participate in a 3-day intensive workshop exploring the relationship between body and landscape. Through guided movement, improvisation, sensory awareness, voice work, and live composition, participants will investigate how the body connects, responds, and shapes its own "landscape."
Application period: March 2–9, 2026
What We Explore
What if our bodies were mountains and valleys, rivers and trees, rocks and stones and lakes and seas? What if the stage was a canvas?Taking departure from his own artistic practice as well as from Sunaura Taylor's recent book on "Disabled Ecologies", physically disabled choreographer and performer Michael Turinsky invites disabled and non-disabled participants to explore the relationship between body and landscape in its various sensible as well as ethical dimensions.
Through a series of guided movement improvisations, we will deepen our sensorial awareness and choreographically explore some of the most basic dimensions and modalities of our bodily embeddedness in our environment: breathing, gravity, giving and taking weight, shaking, oscillating, waving.
In extension to that physical focus, we will explore the choreographic engagement of voice and/or sign language. Starting from creative writing exercises, participants will be invited to practice sharing their perspectives through various means of verbal and non-verbal articulation.
Throughout the whole workshop, a further focus will be put on the acquisition of basic skills in "live composition" which will empower participants to share their workshop experience in a short, 10-minute informal showing.
Who Can Apply
The workshop welcomes artists and practitioners from diverse disciplines including dance, theater, performance, visual arts, and music. Both people with and without disabilities are welcome. No previous dance experience is required – openness to exploration and reflection is essential. We particularly encourage applications from disabled artists and practitioners working in the field of inclusive arts.
