Many scientific advances and environmental issues are presented in an attractive and accessible way for young audiences. The films screened at the Film Festival are produced with the aim of inspiring the next generation of scientists, environmentalists and engineers. The event has grown considerably over the years, becoming the largest event of its kind worldwide.

AI
Artificial Intelligence is changing the way we learn, work, create, and understand the world around us. This year, the Science Film Festival explores the theme “AI”, inviting audiences of all ages to discover how this rapidly evolving technology is shaping science, education, sustainability, and everyday life.
AI is already transforming industries, economies, and the way we interact with the world. It is also opening up new possibilities for protecting our planet - from tracking biodiversity through advanced image recognition, to optimizing renewable energy systems and modelling climate change scenarios. These applications show how AI can become a powerful tool for conservation and sustainable development.
But AI is not without its challenges. As the technology becomes more powerful and widespread, we need to ask important questions: How is our data being used? Can AI systems be transparent and fair? Who benefits from them? And what is the environmental cost of running increasingly powerful computing systems?
AI is a tool, and how it affects our future depends on how we choose to use it. Understanding both its potential and its limitations can help us make better decisions about the role AI should play in our lives and our world.
Through this year’s films, the Science Film Festival invites audiences to explore the possibilities and challenges of AI, think critically about this fast-evolving technology, and discover how it can be harnessed responsibly to help address some of the greatest challenges of our time.
