When science fiction becomes science....
This year marks the twelfth edition of the Science Film Festival. From October to December 2022, the Goethe-Institut in cooperation with its long-term partners, THD Education Solutions Ltd, will present Vietnam's annual science film festival. The festival will not only show films for secondary school students, but also offer a variety of experimental activities. Students, teachers and interested people alike are invited to explore this year's theme, « Equal Opportunities in Science »

Join in and discover...
The Goethe Institute and this year's festival jury have selected 16 films from a total of 174 international submissions from the 41 participating countries to be translated into Vietnamese for the festival. The experiments and hands-on activities were developed jointly by experts from these countries and thus guarantee a high quality science education. Highly entertaining science films and experiments spark curiosity and critical thinking about issues related to the environment, natural science, technology and their social impact. In this way, even difficult issues can be brought to pupils in an entertaining and easy-to-digest way, regardless of their age and background.

A great success...
In recent years, the concept of the festival has proven to be so successful that we expect to reach tens of thousands of students in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh and Da Nang area this year. In cooperation with HCMC General Science Library we also aim to bring the festival in form of libraries on wheels to schools in remote areas where children do not have much access to international festivals and activities.

Promoting equal opportunities in science...
This year’s main theme, therefore, is all about « Equal Opportunities in Science ». Equal opportunity is a state of fairness in which individuals are treated similarly, unhampered by artificial barriers or prejudices or preferences.  Even today, there is an under-representation of women and minorities in science. The festival aims to provide space to raise awareness on this issue and promote diversity and inclusion in the STEM fields. For only a diverse and inclusive scientific workforce, with its wide range of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences, can maximise creativity and innovation.
To deepen the knowledge gained, a set of materials related to the films and experiments will be provided. Teachers can use these as a resource for the classroom and students can try out and get a taste of being young scientists themselves.
