European cultural institutions and embassies in Vietnam show current films from each country. The German submission will be “Hin und Weg” by Christian Zübert.

Again this year, cinema lovers can look forward to a varied program within the framework of the European Film Festival. Current contributions of 13 European countries reflect the variety of Europe – history, culture, society and even the tradition of filmmaking differ from country to country, but are still closely linked to each other.

The German film "Hin und weg" (Tour de force):

Genre: Road Movie
Duration: 95 Minutes
Germany 2014
Language: German with Vietnamese and English Subtitles

The Goethe-Institut Vietnam presents the German contribution “Hin und weg” (English “Tour de force”) by Christian Zübert, who in a very emotional and sensitive way makes euthanasia – in Germany a controversial topic – a subject of discussion. Every year without fail, Hannes, his wife Kiki and their closest friends go on a bike tour. This time it’s Hannes’ turn to choose the destination. For some strange reason he has selected Belgium and the others aren't excited at first. Nevertheless, the trip starts well and the group of friends has a lot of fun until Hannes makes an announcement and tells them the reason why he chose Belgium: he is terminally ill and wants to end his life on his own terms. In Belgium, medically assisted suicide is legal. This trip with his wife and friends will be his final ride. After the shock has subsided, the group decides to pedal hard and enjoy a wild time to fulfil Hannes’ last wish. Till their arrival at the clinic, his friends want to fully enjoy and celebrate life from the heart with Hannes.
