Board game, a novel form of entertainment with highly diverse and interactive interfaces, has increasingly captured the attention of many youths. This type of game uses physical elements such as playboard, dice, pawns, cards, etc. allowing the players to compete head-on with one another. The market currently features thousands of board games from numerous countries, yet only few of them are original Vietnamese board games. For that reason, Vietnamese Board Game Design Contest 2017 has been launched to encourage Vietnamese mavens to create intellectual products that combine features of the local culture with the modern, international gameplay.
Launched in early June 2017 by
BoardgameVN in collaboration with
Gamegeek.asia and
Goethe-Institut Vietnam as well as other strategic partners including
Fundstart,
Bluebird,
Techkids and
Wefit, Vietnamese Board Game Design Contest 2017 has enjoyed a great turn out from board game enthusiasts and the game-making community in Vietnam with a total of 111 applicants and 68 submitted products. During the final round which takes place on July 1st 2017 at Goethe-Institut Hanoi, the Jury – consisting of seasoned Vietnamese game-makers and two experts from Germany – shall select the best three designs from twenty shortlisted projects.
The finale of the Vietnamese Board Game Design Contest 2017 will be followed by several activities with the two German experts on the themes of collaboration, exchanging experiences, and strategic supports for the development of the sub-genre board game in particular and Vietnamese game-making industry in general.
