Working as a photojournalist and documentary photographer in Vietnam since 2011, Giang Pham believes in the impact of images in evoking thoughts and changing viewers' perceptions. As a 2021 ICG Receiver, Giang Pham chooses his focus on Sustainability, especially on stories from the community of young farmers who are the main force of a gradually bigger reverse migration wave from urban to rural areas in Vietnam today. Within 6 months from March to September 2021, he will travel along Vietnam to research and tell stories about these communities and their sustainable agricultural practices, from simple green agriculture to the application of technology towards the development of a minimalist, nature-friendly lifestyle instead of the hustle and bustle of industrial society.

Via this “Green Migration” project, Giang Pham seeks to answer the following questions:

1. What motivates them to return to the countryside?
2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of their sustainable agricultural practices?
3. How have they used technological advances and urban knowledge to apply to sustainable agricultural practices?
4. How have they themselves changed from this process?

The stories aim to explore young people's perspectives on today's sustainable lifestyle practices in Vietnam. The stories are expected to make viewers and readers understand and reflect on sustainable living practices for themselves and the surrounding community.
