The Science Film Festival is a celebration of science communication in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. In cooperation with local partners, it promotes science literacy and facilitates awareness of contemporary scientific, technological and environmental issues through international films with accompanying educational activities.

The Science Film Festival runs internationally in 30 countries from October 1 to December 20 every year with varying dates between participating countries.

The event has grown considerably since its first edition in 2005, becoming the largest event of its kind worldwide reaching over half a million on-site viewers annually.

In 2025, the Science Film Festival was shining a spotlight on Green Jobs exploring the essential role they play in advancing technologies and solutions for a sustainable future. This year’s theme highlights how eco-friendly innovation and environmental responsibility are shaping economies both globally and in South Africa, with a special focus on the agricultural sector and its impact on our environment.
The Science Film Festival Family Day at the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg was inviting a number of partners who are actively working in the sustainability sector to jointly develop a varied programme on the theme Green Jobs.

The Family Day was again a big success with more than 150 children and adults, engaging, with our partners, facilitating workshops that captured the attention of both children and adults. The SFF Family Day links science, films, discussions and educational workshops for all age groups.

Please have a look at our video that best captures the activities and ambiance of the day’s activities.

Thank you once again to our amazing partners that made this event a success.
