Goethe-Institut examinations are well known throughout the world and the associated certificates are accepted as a qualification by employers and further education institutions in many countries. The Goethe-Institut's German language examinations correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and range from A1 for beginners to C2 for language skills at the highest level.
Levels of Goethe-Institut examinations and language courses
On 1 January 2012, the Goethe Certificate C2: Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom (i,e, advanced German-language diploma) will be introduced.
It will replace the three current Goethe Certificate C2-level examinations: ZOP, Kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom (i.e. basic German-language diploma) and the Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom (GDS).The Goethe Certificate C2: ZOP will be held through the end of December 2011. Partial repeat examinations must occur no later than 31 May 2012.
The Kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom (KDS) will be held in November 2011 for the last time. Partial repeat examinations must occur within six months (and not within an entire year, as has been the case until now), i.e. no later than May 2012 .
The Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom (GDS) will be held in November 2011 for the last time. Partial repeat examinations must occur within six months (and not within an entire year, as has been the case until now), i.e. no later than May 2012 .
The grades of the examinations ZOP, KDS and GDS will retain their validity and serve as language competence certification for university admission.
Services for companies
In addition to traditional examinations, the Goethe-Institut also offers very modern, computer-aided testing systems such as ‘Testservice Deutsch für den Beruf’ (BULATS). Companies can use this service to test the foreign language abilities of their employees and job applicants both quickly and at a moderate cost.Reunification of spouses
