MY NAME IS VICTORIA pulls viewers into a unique adventure. In a single take, a group of would-be tough guys and a young Spanish woman wind their way through a long Berlin night.
The following story is told in a single, uninterrupted take, condensed into a frenzied real-time event: lost in her own world, the young Spaniard Victoria dances through trendy Berlin nightclubs. In front of one club, she meets four guys who introduce themselves as Sonne, Boxer, Blinker and Fuss. They quickly start chatting. Sonne and Victoria are interested in one another and leave the group the first chance they get. But their tender flirtation is abruptly interrupted by Sonne’s mates. For them, the night is far from over. In order to settle an old debt, originating from the time when Boxer was in prison, they decide to attempt a heist on a private bank. Because one of them is too drunk, Victoria is to be their driver. The fun and games suddenly turn serious.
After successfully robbing the bank, the group returns to the club and celebrates in high spirits. But when they leave the club, they are recognised by the police and flee into a courtyard. Boxer and Blinker are shot and die a short time later from their injuries. Victoria and Sonne force their way into the nearby flat of an unknown couple, steal their clothes and baby, whom they deliver as promised to the shop across the street, and, after disguising themselves, escape into a hotel. Once there, Victoria notices that Sonne has also been seriously injured in the shootout. She calls an ambulance, but it doesn’t arrive in time. Victoria takes the money and leaves the hotel undetected.
Based on his own screenplay, actor and director Sebastian Schipper outlines the story of a breathless night in the streets of the metropolis. The camera seamlessly links the passing time and the numerous locations, drawing the viewer directly into the action. Together with the reckless group, one looks out over the city from high rooftops, strolls across deserted sidewalks and hides in remote courtyards. Seemingly casual events are intensified into a dramatic tour de force.
