Film with Q&A
An Evening with Director Sönke Wortmann | Sydney
Screening "The Miracle of Bern" & "Locked-In Society"
The Goethe-Institut presents an evening with director, Sönke Wortmann. The renowned German filmmaker will introduce two of his movies in Sydney and stay for a Q&A after the screening. Sönke Wortmann is an important figure in the German film industry. He has produced and directed more than 35 movies and series for cinema and television.
As we live in times between football world cups – Men’s World Cup 2022 in Qatar and Women´s World Cup 2023 in Australia and New Zealand – one of the movies is a real treat for soccer fans: The Miracle of Bern (Das Wunder von Bern, 2003) portrays the life of a German family after WWII when the German football team won the 1954 World Cup in Bern and brought euphoria to post-war Germany.
At the same time, Locked-in Society (Eingeschlossense Gesellschaft, 2022) will be shown in the upstairs cinema. Premiering in Australia this evening, this is a brand new comedy about a parent who locks up the teachers of his son as he tries to extort them to give his son a better grade.
The movies will be shown simultaneously at the Chauvel Cinema. After both screenings, Sönke Wortmann will be available for a Q&A.
