Dear Future Children is the thought-provoking film debut by 22-year-old director Franz Böhm. This charged feature length documentary explores the challenges and underlying motivations of youth activism around the globe, following the new generation at the heart of seismic political shifts.

The project follows three key female activists on the protests in Hong Kong against the Beijing-influenced administration under Carrie Lam, the protests in Chile against social inequality in the country and in Uganda at the local Fridays for Future protests, and actions for climate justice on the C40 World Mayors Summit 2019 in Copenhagen.

We watch as Rayen protests for social justice in Chile, Pepper fights for democracy in Hong Kong and Hilda battles the devastating consequences of climate change in Uganda. Facing almost impossible odds and grappling with the staggering impact of their activism on their personal lives, we will be asking these three young women why they keep fighting when change often seems beyond their reach.
The project has been celebrated as a film about the next generation, made by the next generation, and is a must-watch film for people of all ages.

Dear Future Children has received several awards, including the Audience Award at the 2021 Hot Docs Documentary Festival, the 19th International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) and the 42nd Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival. After its win at Hot Docs, the film now qualifies for 2022 Academy Awards.

Dear Future Children will be shown online as part of the 2022 Transitions Film Festival from February 18th to March 13th 2022 - buy your online passes here now!
