To realize your dream sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and leave your comfort zone behind. This quirky documentary directed by Valentin Thurn follows five alternative and inspirational individuals on their search for brighter futures.

These five humans could hardly be more different: designer Van Bo Le-Mentzel builds Tiny Houses in an effort to demonstrate how “rent-free-living” could be a viable alternative to exorbitant house prices – and right in the middle of Berlin! Inventor Carl-Heinrich von Gablenz created a zeppelin to transport heavy loads, despite having already been bankrupted by his idea once before. Line Fuks emigrated to Portugal in the hopes their children will never have to go to school again but rather learn what they want and about things that interest them. Action artist Joy Lohmann builds floating islands out of garbage and Günther Golob hopes for a one-way-ticket to outer space: dreaming of being a member of the first mission to colonise Mars. Dream on. Yearning for Change joins these five remarkable people as they search for alternatives, not just for themselves, but also for society.

As different as their ideas may be, they are united by a common starting point: a dream that first develops deep inside and then ripples outwards. Director Valentin Thurn explores the mysteries of their dreams and discovers what drives these individuals to create their imagined utopias. At the very heart of this films lies the question: what makes these remarkable people able to take their dreams so seriously and keep faith when others would surely lose hope?

Dream On. Yearning for Change will be shown online as part of the 2022 Transitions Film Festival from February 18th to March 13th 2022 - buy your online passes here now!
