Tom Bünger is here as a mentor and artistic director for the Young Choreographers’ Platform 2018, working with young choreographers and dancers to develop their own contemporary Bangladeshi dance language in bringing their own stories, themes, dreams to the stage.

My first impression of Bangladesh…
That I was at the right place at the right time.

Things in Dhaka that remind me of my home town Bremen…
A vague feeling of home.

Something that caught my attention in Bangladesh (and that is rather unusual in Germany)…
People look at me as a ‘bideshi’, a stranger, but with curiosity and interest.

A memory of Bangladesh that will stay…
Every single encounter, particularly with the people with whom I work on dance, who come from vastly different backgrounds, share their stories with me, trust me, surprise me, travel for hours because they know, just as I do, that what we are doing is beautiful and important, and who, when faced with chaos, restore order with a smile.

Tomas Bünger studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover ballet and contamporary dance.
From 1999-2012 he was a dancer with the Tanztheater Bremen under the artistic direction of Urs Dietrich and Susanne Linke. He worked with many international choreographers like Emanuel Gat, Ingun Bjørnsgaard and Tero Saarinen and toured worldwide. From 2009-2012 he was also the rehearsal director of the company.
Today he is sharing his knowledge of dance with different non-professional groups of the society and professionals. 2013 he did a further education as an integrative dance teacher at the Mark Morris Dance Center in New York (Dance for People with Parkinson´s). Since 2014 he is working with the support of the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh as a guest teacher at the National Theatre of Dhaka. 2015 he was a guest teacher at the University of the Arts in Buenos Aires (UNA). Since 2017 he is giving masterclasses for students of the Hochschule der Künste im Sozialen Ottersberg.
2018 he is a lecturer at the University of Bremen (cultural sciences). He is a jury member of the Tanztreffen der Jugend in the framework of the Berliner Festspiele and one of the founders of the TanzKollektivBremen.
