This film cycle is an invitation to discover works that bring to light stories and memories that have long been marginalized. Through documentaries, feature films, and experimental films, this film series offers unique insights into contemporary Germany while exploring the connections between identity, belonging, and memory.
What these films have in common is their ability to create a dialogue between personal and collective history(ies).

Miryam Charles, a Montreal-based filmmaker and visual artist of Haitian descent and curator of this film cycle, focuses her own filmmaking on those spaces where personal narratives become gestures of transmission:
“With this selection of films, I want to present works that shift our perspective and create space for reflection on the stories that continue to shape our present.”

The film series Inhabiting History, curated by Montreal filmmaker and artist Miryam Charles, is presented by the Goethe-Institut Montreal in collaboration with the Cinémathèque québécoise.
