AI + Inclusion

Generation A = Algorithmus

When discussing artificial intelligence, we must not only consider the unequal impact of this technology on mostly marginalised population groups (Couch Lesson: AI + Bias), but also unequal access to it. Demographic variables such as ethnicity, gender, disability, national origin, location or educational background often determine who is able to participate in the development and use of AI. Despite the opportunities offered by this technology, there is a real risk that it will exacerbate structural, economic, social and political imbalances and increase inequalities. In this Couch Lesson we will discuss whether and how AI can be used for the benefit of all members of society. After all, the year 2020 has demonstrated the importance of participation in digital solutions. At the same time, however, it has become more than apparent how large the so-called digital gap between different population groups actually is.

What you will learn

  • Can AI be conceived at all as inclusive, or is AI a global good?
  • How will the countries of the global South be involved in the development and use of AI?
  • How can people with disabilities participate in AI?
