On 9th October, the world of nightlife gathers in Tallinn – to exchange ideas, inspire and show how a vibrant night culture can shape the identity of an entire city and its people. HALL hosts the international conference Dance Floor of Democracy, bringing together voices from the nightlife scenes of Berlin, Amsterdam, Helsinki, Galway and many other cities.

The conference is free of charge, but advance registration is required: Full programme and registration.

When the discussions end, the night speaks for itself. At HALL, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra meets techno – the acoustic power of the orchestra merges with the hypnotic pulse of club music. ERSO musicians will perform Kenn-Eerik Kannike’s debut album Computations, arranged for classical instruments by Karl Tipp.

After the concert, the evening flows seamlessly into a club night with Chloe Lula (Tresor, Berlin), Miia Magia (HE.SHE.THEY., Parabel Agency, Helsinki) and Ciara May (Cultúr / Riot, Galway) taking over the DJ booth.

Programme:
• Computations (Kenn-Eerik Kannike, arr. Karl Tipp), performed by ERSO musicians
• Miia Magia (HE.SHE.THEY., Parabel Agency, Helsinki)
• Chloe Lula (Tresor, Berlin)
• Ciara May (Cultúr / Riot, Galway)

Doors: 21:30

Miia Magia - DJ, Motto Sono Records (Finland). Miia Magia's past two decades of exploring the dancefloor with her groovy and hypnotic sets has been a labour of love. The once passionate clubber, record collector and lover of the UK alternative rock sound today lights up her sets with dubbed out raw techno and classic deep house. A beautiful journey through festival stages, warehouse raves and club nights in Europe, from Iceland to Germany together with HE.SHE.THEY. (resident), Berghain, Culture Box, HALL, Department and Kesarauha. Miia is the owner of Motto Sono Records, actively running the label since 2020.Miia started out by playing at various Helsinki clubs and parties. "Club FF" became in 2004 the first club night in Semifinal's history run solely by female DJs, making Miia the pioneer that she is to this day. Miia continued trailblazing by gaining a residency in club DTM, the undisputed cornerstone or in their own words "institution of all things queer in the Helsinki nighttime", and eventually leading the massive Helsinki Pride parade for several years. At mbar, one of Helsinki's most beloved cultural hangouts, Miia's "Sound of Magic" concept became an instant classic.

Chloe Lula - DJ, Resident Advisor (Germany/USA). Chloe Lula is a Berlin-based artist and journalist who examines politics and the cultural zeitgeist through music and art. She is the Senior Producer at Resident Advisor, where she hosts and produces the weekly RA Exchange video interview series and curates panels, talks and workshops for festivals like Dekmantel, Nuits Sonores, Rewire, Unsound, IMS, ADE and more. Chloe received her master’s degree from Columbia Journalism School, which was shortly followed by a fellowship with the Pulitzer Center. Her writing has appeared in the Washington Post, the New York Times, Politico, Esquire and The Wire, among other publications. She sits on the advisory board of In Place of War, an organization that uses art as a tool for positive transformation in places impacted by conflict and social injustice, and she is currently directing and producing a documentary on nightlife at the frontline of the war on Ukraine. She is a cellist, producer, composer and resident DJ at Tresor Berlin.

Ciara May - DJ, Cultúr / Riot (Ireland). Ciara May is a DJ and Cultural Producer from Galway on the west coast of Ireland, who grew up in the free party scene. Forever inspired by the collectiveness and unity created on dancefloors, she is driven to curate and create inclusive and safe spaces where the ‘girls, gays and theys’ feel comfortable to express themselves, be connected to their bodies and each other. She does this through playing percussive, fun, bouncy genres that can go anywhere from Global sounds to campy pop remixes. This same drive to create safe and inclusive spaces, led her to set up the Queer club night, Cultúr/Riot, a FINTA (female, Intersex, Trans, Agender) focused club night that celebrates Queer club culture and its impact throughout the world, while always holding the activist energy of Queer liberation movements.Ciara has been working with the Galway City Council Night-Time Economy Adviser on how to improve night time safety in the city and further afield.
