Michael Zichy Foto: Herbert Rohrer, Wildbild Michael Zichy is an Austrian philosopher. He spent his childhood in Burundi, Togo, Italy and Austria. He studied philosophy at the University of Salzburg, where he graduated in 1997.

After some interim assignments for the European Commission in Brussels, he resumed his academic career that brought him to the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, the New School for Social Research in New York and back to the University of Salzburg, where he is currently Associate Professor for philosophy.

His major fields of research are philosophical anthropology, where he is an expert in the theory of different understandings of the human being, and ethics, where he has published extensively on the methodology of applied ethics, bioethics, human rights and human dignity.

Additionally, he is working in the field of philosophy of language, and he is particularly interested in philosophical diagnoses of the present time.

Besides his work as university teacher and researcher, he is politically active and – together with Jonas Lüscher – initiator of the 13-10-movement.
