Reinhard Kleist on inspiration, protest – and France
With his graphic novel “Der Traum von Olympia” Reinhard Kleist created a highly moving illustrated commentary on the debate about refugees and migration. In it, Kleist tells the story of Somali runner Samia Yusuf Omar, who at the age of 17 years was on the starting line at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Her dream: a life as an athlete in Europe. In April 2012 she drowned while trying to cross the Mediterranean. On the occasion of the Frankfurt Book fair in the interview he responds to questions about his work and France, this year’s Book Fair Guest of Honour.
