調査結果をまとめると、日本人の最大19%が、排外主義や人種差別を含む陰謀論を程度の差こそあれ信じていると推定できる。しかし、日本人は必ずしもこれらのイデオロギーを支持しているわけではない。むしろ、永吉希久子氏[28]や秦正樹氏[6]が説明しているように、社会的調和を重んじ、日常生活で政治的な議論をすることを控える傾向にある日本では、陰謀論は一部の人にとって、個人的な意見や偏見を見直したり、昇華したりする手段になっているとも言えるかもしれない。さらに、筆者らによる最近の調査でも、多くの日本人は陰謀論を否定しないが、高く評価しているわけでもないことがわかっている (Cheng et al., 2024)。
