East Berlin, Alexanderplatz ‒ an asphalt desert and the popular territory of GDR’s skateboard scene in the 1980s. THIS AIN’T CALIFORNIA is a fast-paced time journey through the adventures of the “wheel-board-riders” of the GDR. The fictional documentary tells the story of three youngsters who early discover skateboarding for themselves and acquire advanced skills. Finally, GDR authorities become aware of the skateboard gang at "Alex" and offer their controlling support. On the occasion of the Euroskate in Prague 1988 the group becomes friends with their West German fellow skaters. It’s the beginning of a friendship beyond borders.
