Just about falling: The body becomes an instrument

An intensive three-day workshop with Juan Kruz Diaz de Garaio Esnaola is organized by the Goethe-Institut Thailand in collaboration with the Unfolding Kafka Festival, the Spanish Embassy in Bangkok, the Jim Thompson Art Center, the James H.W. Thompson Foundation and the Urban Hospitality Group (UHG). A total of 25 people have been chosen to attend this intense training.

The first half of the workshop will focus on technique: the elements of bodyweight, momentum and speed, efficiency and economy of effort are approached through exercises that propose a very close relationship to the floor, as well as an understanding of the body’s anatomy and of the physical forces that create, influence, and manipulate the body’s motion. The class is structured in exercises that develop in technical difficulty (body coordination, spatial awareness). The second half is invested in creating, analyzing, and choreographing physical material. The meaning of movement is questioned. Improvisation is used to expand the choreographic repertoire and language, to fully grow into the body’s potential as an instrument and a tool of expression.
