This achingly funny yet at times extremely sad film tells the touching story of a father-daughter relationshipwhich is very relevant today. Maren Ade’s film is a great favourite with the German public.

The father, Winfried Conradi alias Toni Erdmann, is a fun-loving, retired music teacher. The daughter, Ines, is a tough business woman, who has no time for her father’s practical jokes. She has, actually, no time at all – except for work.

So when Winfried decides to pay his daughter a surprise visit in Bucharest, at a very decisive point in her career, the situation escalates.

“A humane hilarious triumph.” – Guy, Lodge, Variety

“If a single movie were enough to silence reports of the death of cinema, it would be this one.” - A. O. Scott, The New York Times
