Virtual Speaker Series

Through a series of virtual speaker sessions, the Transatlantic Outreach Program (TOP) offers educators the opportunity to explore "Germany Today." Topics range from discussing American and German election systems to German baking to lesson demonstrations from our TOP alumni. This speaker series is intended for educators hoping to learn more about contemporary Germany and how they can implement new ideas and experiences into their classrooms.

Pirates and Punks

June 2025

TOP Alum, Scott Noet, led a hands-on presentation discussing his lesson plan on the Edelweiss Pirates and East German punks and how to teach about youth activism in the North American classroom. Recording and materials available.

The Cultural Landscape of Memory

February 2025

TOP Alum, Kyle Tredinnick, led a hands-on presentation which guided participants through the process of "reading" a cultural landscape through a geographic perspective to gain insight into how photograph analysis can be further implemented into their own classrooms. Comparing German and American Electoral Systems

October 2024

Dr. Thomas Greven, Freie Universität Berlin, an expert in U.S. politics and foreign policy, discussed the similarities and differences of the U.S. and German election systems in their current forms in the lead up to the U.S. 2024 Elections in a 60 minute lecture.
