An online international conversation featuring Bates College professor and media artist Asha Tamarisa and German composer, musician, and media artist AGF aka poemproducer (Antye Greie-Ripatti). Each will share their work, explore the composition and installation of electronic sounds, and discuss their advocacy work discussing gender within the realm of electronic music.
Presented in the context of the exhibition Techno Worlds which takes place at SPACE in Portland, ME from October 7 - November 5, 2022. This conversation is co-presented with SPACE.
AGF aka poemproducer (Antye Greie-Ripatti) ist eine digitale Songwriterin, elektronische Musikerin, Klangkünstlerin, Komponistin, Dichterin, Kuratorin, Pädagogin und Sprecherin. Geboren 1969, aufgewachsen in Ostdeutschland, lebt und arbeitet sie seit 2008 in Hailuoto, Finnland. Ihre Arbeit betont die Beziehung zwischen Sprache, Klang, Stimme und Kommunikation, die in Musik, audiovisuellen Live-Performances, digitaler Kommunikation, Klanginstallationen, Sound für andere visuelle Medien, Ausstellungen und konzeptionellen Arbeiten zum Ausdruck kommt. Greie-Ripatti hat 30 Langspielplatten und zahlreiche Kollaborationen unter Pseudonymen wie AGF, AGF/Delay (mit Vladislav Delay), Greie Gut Fraktion (mit Gudrun Gut) und The Lappetites (mit Kaffe Matthews und Eliane Radigue) veröffentlicht, viele davon in Zusammenarbeit mit dem preisgekrönten klassischen Komponisten Craig Armstrong.
Sie betreibt die Produktionsfirma und das Musiklabel AGF PRODUCKTION und hat Platten für andere Künstler produziert, vor allem für Ellen Allien (SOOL, 2009, BPitch). Im Jahr 2011 gründete Greie-Ripatti die Kunstorganisation Hai Art in Hailuoto und arbeitete als künstlerische Leiterin und Organisatorin/Workshopleiterin. Hai Art ist eine Kunstorganisation mit Sitz auf der Insel Hailuoto in Nordfinnland. Ihre Haupttätigkeit ist die künstlerische Intervention im sozialen und öffentlichen Raum mittels gemischter Medien und Klangkunst. Sie betreibt das Hailuoto iPad Orchestra und Kaiku ("Echo"), einen lokalen Klangchor. Seit 2014 ist AGF als unabhängiger Kurator tätig und hat zahlreiche weitere kollaborative Klangprojekte durchgeführt. Im Jahr 2004 gewann AGF einen Award of Distinction beim Ars Electronica Festival. AGF war 2004 auf dem Cover des XLR8R und 2006 auf dem Cover des Wire Magazine UK.
Asha Tamirisa works with sound, computational media, video, and film in performance and installation. Asha’s creative work is informed by critical studies fields such as feminist science and technology studies, critical race theory, and media archeology. She is currently Assistant Professor of Music at Bates College and holds her PhD in Computer Music and Multimedia from Brown University. Tamirisa has performed at venues such as the ICA Boston, Bitforms Gallery (NYC), has given talks at the University of Michigan, Mount Holyoke College, Oberlin College, and Wheaton College, and held residencies at The Media Archeology Lab (Boulder, CO), Perte de Signal (Montreal, CA) and I-Park Foundation (East Haddam, CT). Her work has been mentioned in the Oxford Handbook of New Audiovisual Aesthetics and the 5th Edition of Electronic and Experimental Music: Technology, Music, and Culture. Along with many colleagues, Tamirisa co-founded OPENSIGNAL, a collective of artists concerned with the state of gender and race in electronic music and art practice.
