About the Film
Hirayama (Kôji Yakusho) seems utterly content with his simple life as a cleaner of toilets in Tokyo. Outside of his very structured everyday routine, he enjoys his passion for music, books, and taking photos of trees. A series of unexpected encounters gradually reveals more of his past in this deeply moving and poetic reflection on finding beauty in the everyday world. Celebrated German filmmaker Wim Wenders returns to Japan, a country that has long inspired him, to make this gentle humanist drama that earned multiple awards.
