The Saxon Wind Philharmonic (Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie), awarded the 2023 OPUS KLASSIK as “Ensemble of the Year,” visits New York this April as part of the New York International Music Festival. Join us for a special reception with musical accompaniment by the ensemble’s woodwind quintet.
This gathering offers a unique opportunity to experience the ensemble up close and celebrate their remarkable journey - from their roots in Saxony to performing on international stages. The visit will be accompanied by Saxon Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch, as well as distinguished representatives from politics and business in the Leipzig and Northern Saxony regions.
Pieces performed by the woodwind quintet during the reception:
1. “Kommt ein schlanker Bursch gegangen” from the opera *Der Freischütz* by Carl Maria von Weber
2. Slavonic Dance No. 10 by Antonín Dvořák
3. “Una bella serenata” from the opera *Cosi fan tutte* by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
As part of their New York program, the orchestra will also perform at Carnegie Hall on April 6, 2026, within the New York International Music Festival. At Carnegie Hall, the Saxon Wind Philharmonic will present a signature program that impressively reflects the ensemble’s musical identity. Above all, works by Saxon composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Richard Wagner, as well as “La Valse” by Maurice Ravel will be performed.
This tour would not have been possible without the support of the Friends of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic Association, a successful crowdfunding campaign, the Saxon regional brand “So geht sächsisch,” and the generosity of our loyal audience and various companies. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who helped make this dream a reality.
The Saxon Wind Philharmonic is funded by the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism and the cultural region “Kulturraum Leipziger Raum” and co‑financed by tax revenues on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon State Parliament.
