New books from 8 European countries: Reading by the authors, discussions, book presentations and films.
This will be the 6th time the European Literature Days has been held in Hanoi and the first time it has travelled to HO CHI MINH CITY. The vivid literature festival with contributions from eight European countries will be full of activities for book lovers of any age including book presentations, readings, workshops, talks, exhibitions and films.
Since 2011, the annual European Literature Days have been organized in Hanoi by EUNIC, the association of European Cultural Institutes and Embassies. That the festival expands to HO CHI MINH CITY this year is the best evidence of the great interest in European literature in Vietnam. There is something for everyone, with books from Denmark, Germany, France, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, Spain and Great Britain.
The Literature Days will be opened on May 5 by the participating countries in the Goethe-Institut Hanoi. The first German contribution is “Sung’s store”, a novel about a piece of Vietnam in Germany, presented by the author Karin Kalisa (with Vietnamese translation). We continue with “The Taste of Apple Seeds”. The successful novel from Germany will be presented by Nguyen Quang Hung and Nguyen Thuy Anh.
The three popular children's novels about the adventures of Rico and Oskar are now fully published in Vietnamese translation. We present the volumes and then show the film "Rico, Oskar and the Deeper Shadows". This year we also introduce one of the most important novel fragments of German literature: "The Castle" by Franz Kafka.
The events in Hanoi will be held at the Goethe-Institut, L’Espace and Casa Italia. In HO CHI MINH CITY the festival takes place at IDECAF, in the Library of General Sciences and in book street Nguyen Van Binh.
