Goethe-Institut Hanoi

Berlin-based sound artist, composer and experimental turntablist Ignaz Schick will visit his colleagues and friends, players, performers, composers from the “highly unique Vietnamese experimental music scene” (Ignaz). The workshop will include a two day rehearsal phase culminating in a final performances and live-recording session including the presentation of two large group graphic score compositions and several small group constellations by the German artist & invited Vietnamese participants.

The selected musicians are covering a vast musical spectrum from electro-acoustic improvisation, ambient electronics, contemporary music, traditional Vietnamese roots to the extremes of digital noise and represent several different generations and experience levels of the actual & thriving Vietnamese scene.
Ignaz Schick visited Hanoi for the first time in March 2017 during his extended research trip to various South East Asian countries thanks to a stipend he received from the Berlin Arts Council. In co-operation with the Goethe-Institut Hanoi he conducted his local research, taught a workshop involving emerging artists and premiered a graphic score piece especially written for the Hanoi musicians and both their traditional, modern or self-built instruments. The collaboration was extremely fruitful and for enhancing the networking & exchange; and it was decided to continue the venture and organize a second and more extended version. For continuity Schick has invited musicians from last time but also added new faces.
Besides Ignaz Schick the following musicians have been invited: Ha Thuy Hang (tranh + objects), Luong Hue Trinh (live-electronics), Nguyen Anh Tuan (violin), Nguyen Hong Giang (live-electronics), Nguyen Thi Thu Huong (objects), Nguyen Thuy Dung (tranh), Nguyen Thuy Linh (dan bau, voice), Nguyen Thu Thuy (pipa), SonX (percussion), Thi Kim Ngoc Tran (voice), Ignaz Schick (turntables, sampler, electronics, composition)
