ACCA presents the first solo exhibition of Ulla von Brandenburg in Australia.

A unique style which brings film, architecture and installation together in theatrical presentations: Ulla von Brandenburg can be rightly called one of Germany’s most exciting visual artists.

The Australian Centre for Contemporary Art proudly presents the first solo exhibition of the excellent Ulla von Brandenburg in Australia. In addition to a fantastic selection of her films the exhibition concludes fascinating installations of objects, shadow plays and also costumes. Her unique style is distinguished by refined textiles.

Ulla von Brandenburg was born in Karlsruhe and now lives and works in Paris - the city many popular artists call their home. Many prestigious institutions have already presented her work, among others Centre Pompidou in Paris, Tate Modern in London and the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin. Also, von Brandenburg and her artworks were part of the 19th Biennale in Sydney and premiered lately at Performa in New York. Recently she was nominated for the prestigious French art prize “Prix Marcel Duchamp”.

What is special about the works of Ulla von Brandenburg is the way she explores relationships between people. Moreover, she is able to create stories which deal with the thresholds between reality and artifice. The German artist often uses historical source material and transforms it into the present. In this way she tacitly reveals the rules that govern our social reality. Her innovative mixture of film, drawing, installation and performance will allow the audience to see the interaction of language, exchange and colour. ACCA presents the art of Ulla von Brandenburg within the scenery of a baroque opera set and also published a book which documents the whole exhibition.

The artist is present at the opening.
