A moderated discussion about the lives of women online in Bangladesh to launch WOMEN ONLINE DOT BD - a podcast exploring how women exist in the viral, vile and wild digital landscape.

The Goethe-Institut Bangladesh in partnership with HerStory Foundation will host this event at Goethe-Institut Bangladesh.  Open to all upon registration: https://forms.gle/9dhakibwL2nG7yWG9

The conversation will be moderated by Shaveena Anam and centre around the question -
"What forces shape the experiences of women and women-identifying people on the internet in Bangladesh?" 
from legal, technical, social and generational perspectives.

Panelists include:

DR. NOVA AHEMED

A computer scientist working as a Professor at North South University in Bangladesh. She has finished her PhD from Georgia Institute of Technology, USA and came back to Bangladesh to make changes. After returning to Bangladesh, she used her understanding of sensors to fight social challenges such as systems to protect women from sexual harassment.
She is the founder and former EC of National Young Academy Bangladesh, former EC of Global Young Academy, Fellow of Sangat, the feminist network in South Asia, founding board member of Kaan Pete Roi, a suicide prevention call center. In her free time, she is busy with her two daughters and fun partner!

BARRISTER PRIYA AHSAN

Priya Ahsan Chowdhury is an Advocate at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, a Barrister, and an Associate at Dr. Kamal Hossain and Associates, having joined the firm in 2018. Priya’s main areas of practice are constitutional and administrative law, public interest, human rights and family law.

TAMARA YESMIN TOMA

Tamara Yesmin Toma is a Bangladeshi digital rights advocate and fact-checking professional whose work centers on disinformation, gendered tech abuse, and platform accountability. She currently serves as Research Coordinator at Dismislab.

Powered by female excellence - Sister Library is a space to celebrate female literary creativity. The library project started in Bombay by indigenous artist Aqui Thami and holds one thousand works of women writers, artists and zine makers. It is an evolving and generative artwork that engages with an in-depth reflection on the visual and reading cultures of our times. The goal of the project is to bring together readers, to explore literary contributions, showcase artistic quality and celebrate women in the creative world as well as to foster interests and understanding of the accomplishments of female writers and artists.
