Luisa recently moved out of her parents’ home and is curious to see what life has in store for her. She loves parties, is always up for a good time, and enjoys flirting and little adventures. She lives in a group home for people with disabilities on the outskirts of a small German town. There, she receives support in her often turbulent daily life. Unnoticed, Luisa becomes increasingly quiet; daily life in the group home continues as usual until it is unexpectedly discovered that Luisa is pregnant. Luisa herself does not say how this happened and remains silent. Everyone knows that her boyfriend Anton is infertile. The suspicion of sexual abuse is obvious. Luisa decides to terminate the pregnancy. The police are called in and try to determine whether a crime has been committed. The investigation becomes a trial by fire for Luisa, her relationship with Anton, and the entire staff of the residential facility.
About the film
Luisa was produced with a professional cast of ten actors with disabilities and ten actors without disabilities. This is the first time such a project has been undertaken in Germany. The screenplay was written by Julia Roesler and Silke Merzhäuser based on months of research in residential facilities for people with disabilities. In addition to the deeply moving personal story of young resident Luisa, the film also aims to expose the systemic structures that enable the extremely high incidence of abuse against women with disabilities. During the screenplay development process, the filmmakers collaborated with the inclusive ensemble MEINE DAMEN UND HERREN from Hamburg, several of whose actors are also part of the cast.
