Did you know that a hundred years ago 50% of people studying abroad were studying in Germany? Germany has attracted people looking for a first-class education ever since.

There are good reasons for studying in Germany:

  • The first German university was founded in Heidelberg in 1386. Today you can choose from over 300 further education institutions offering a first-class education.
  • With about 100 million native speakers, German is the most widely-spoken language in Europe. The strengths of the German economy and its increasing global significance make German a language which is becoming ever more important in the world market.
  • The costs of living for students can be reduced thanks to a range of support.
  • As well as a wide range of leisure activities at universities there are many different opportunities off-campus to enjoy sport, culture or numerous other activities.

International courses of studies

Many German universities offer courses leading to an internationally recognised qualification, covering a wide range of options: undergraduate, graduate und postgraduate courses (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD). All courses maintain high academic standards and are well organised; they are taught in English and supplemented with German courses

German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – DAAD)

DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst / German Academic Exchange Service) is a private, publicly funded, self-governing organization of higher education institutions in Germany. DAAD promotes international academic relations and cooperation by offering mobility programs primarily for students and faculty, but also for administrators and others in the higher education realm.

DAAD is the German national agency for the support of international academic cooperation. DAAD offers programs and funding for students, faculty, researchers and others in higher education, providing financial support to nearly 140,000 individuals per year. It also represents the German higher education system abroad, promotes Germany as an academic and research destination, and help build ties between institutions around the world.

In Canada, DAAD is represented by its Information Centre in Toronto. DAAD Canada is responsible for promoting DAAD’s suite of scholarship and grant programs to scholars at all Canadian universities and serves as a first-point of contact for individuals interested in learning more about Germany as a destination for study or research.
