After living in Weißenfels, where he was born on January 3, 1951, Andreas moved to Düsseldorf in 1965. In 1972, after having missed the inscription deadline of the Saint-Luc Institute in Brussels, he began his artistic studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Of Düsseldorf. He spent a year there. It was in 1973 that Andreas left Germany and went to Belgium to study there for three years at the Saint-Luc Institute. There he met Philippe Berthet, Antonio Cossu and Philippe Foerster with whom he worked in a workshop in 1977. From the second year of his studies, he followed the courses of Eddy Paape (with whom he collaborated in the series "
Udolfo ") at the Academy of Saint-Gilles for two years. It is Jijé who presides over its jury of end of study in Saint-Luc.
In 1978 he moved to France, first to Paris, then to Saint-Brieuc (1982) and finally to Rennes (1995). He begins by participating in magazines (À suivre),
Le Journal de Tintin and
Métal Hurlant. In 1978 he created the character of Rork for the magazine "
Le Journal de Tintin". His adventures will be repeated in albums in the collection "
Histoires et légendes" of the editions Le Lombard. His first published album was "
Révélations posthumes" in 1980 at Éditions Bédérama, with François Rivière as screenwriter. It is a collection of four imaginary stories about the writers H. P. Lovecraft, Agatha Christie, Jules Verne, and Pierre Loti, which appeared in the journal (À suivre) using the scratch card technique. In 2001, the cartoon festival
Quai des Bulles of Saint-Malo awarded him the prize
Bonnet d'âne. In 2002, he participated in the great
Donjon adventure, headed by Lewis Trondheim and Joann Sfar, by drawing an album of the Monster series in the collection
Humor de Rire by Delcourt. Since 1997 he has worked mainly on his two longest series:
Capricorn (at least 20 volumes) for the editions of Lombard and
Arq (scheduled for 18 volumes) for those of Delcourt. Since 2001, Andreas has delegated the colorization of the
Capricorn series to Isabelle Cochet. In 2006, the partnership is perpetuated, Isabelle Cochet participates in the drawing of the album
Quintos.
Andreas and his family live in France in Rennes.
